Performance

Looking to reach your highest potential in your athletic pursuits? Our team of performance specialists are here to support you by perfecting movement and providing you with data and tools to reach your goals!

Kinesiology

Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement. Kinesiology in Kelowna addresses physiological, biomechanical, and psychological dynamic principles and mechanisms of movement. A Kinesiologist in Kelowna will look at your current functional standards and identify any shortcomings. This information will allow them to curate a program specific to you to allow for improvement in functionality.

Kinesiology Taping

Rock tape is designed to improve muscle function while aiding in injury rehabilitation and support. The tape works by gently pulling on the skin where applied, this creates a small gap between your skin and the muscle below it allowing for optimal movement.

VO₂ Max - Direct Method

The VO2 Max is the gold-standard measurement of endurance and can be a great tool for athletes to use before and at the end of a training cycle to determine if any improvement has been made to their physical activity and cardiovascular fitness.

The direct method to measure VO₂ max, or maximal oxygen uptake, involves a graded exercise test on a treadmill. While the subject exercises at progressively increasing intensities, their oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production are monitored using a mask connected to a metabolic cart. The test continues until the subject reaches volitional exhaustion, at which point the highest VO₂ reading is recorded as their VO₂ max. This method provides an accurate measure of cardiovascular fitness and aerobic capacity.

You can book a VO₂ Max test with one of our Kinesiologists or Exercise Physiologist.

Firefighter and Paramedic Fitness Testing

Applying to become a Firefighter or Paramedic? The Justice Institute of BC requires proof of physical ability as part of the mandatory entrance requirements.

Valeo Health Clinic is proud to provide the CSEP-PATH (Physical Activity Training for Health) Assessment which is recognized by the Justice Institute of BC as acceptable proof of physical ability.

The assessment takes approximately 1.5 hours and is conducted by a BCAK registered Kinesiologist.

Compression Therapy

The NormaTec 2.0 is an advanced recovery tool designed to enhance blood circulation and alleviate discomfort associated with human movement exercise, training, travel, occupational standing, inflammation, and various circulatory concerns. By boosting circulation and promoting mobility, this device caters to individuals who engage in regular workouts, prepare for competitions or races, encounter swollen legs due to long-haul flights, stand for extended periods at their jobs, grapple with inflammation, or face other related vascular issues.

Valeo is equipped with the Normatec 2.0 legs, hips and arm compression therapy set.

Testing

Balance Point Assessment (BPA)

A comprehensive performance evaluation designed to identify physiological limitations and optimize training protocols. This thorough assessment appointment, lasting 120 minutes (~60 minutes of which is testing time), encompasses the analysis of various parameters such as cardiac, respiratory, muscular, metabolic, muscular-skeletal, and neuromuscular coordination, offering a comprehensive understanding of an individual’s physical capabilities. The BPA serves as a roadmap for tailored training strategies, addressing specific areas of weakness to enhance overall performance and mitigate injury risk.

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) testing

A fundamental measure of metabolic health and energy expenditure. Conducted over a similar timeframe of a 60 minute appointment (~20 minutes of testing time), RMR testing provides detailed insights into basal metabolic rate, informing targeted strategies for nutrition and weight management. RMR testing represents a cost-effective means of optimizing metabolic efficiency, supporting sustainable health outcomes.

Respiratory training sessions and assessments

Utilizing spirometry and respiratory mechanics assessment using advanced technologies such as the Isocapnic BWB device and Tyme Wear technology. These assessments offer real-time data on breathing mechanics, enabling precise evaluation of respiratory function and efficiency. These sessions complement traditional physiological testing, providing comprehensive insights into respiratory health and performance.
